Land Acknowledgement Statement

A territorial acknowledgement formally recognizes the lasting relationship between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories. Recent versions of land acknowledgements have been inspired by the 94 Calls to Action published in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada report. This land acknowledgement statement is a recognition of Cambridge Public Library's commitment to fostering a positive and enduring relationship between Indigenous peoples, the land, and this organization. We understand that, as we grow and learn as an organization and deepen our relationships, our approach to land acknowledgments will evolve and become richer. Cambridge Public Library hopes that this statement, and its future iterations, will be thoughtful in their development, meaningful in their use, and positive in their impact.

Cambridge Public Library acknowledges that our services and facilities are located on lands that are part of the Haldimand Tract. We recognize the complex history of the Haldimand Tract, the traditional lands of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and Chonnonton. We honour the enduring connection between our shared past, collective present, and collective future through listening, reflecting and learning.
