Practice Your English

Through programs and collections, Cambridge Public Library serves as a supportive and inclusive community hub. The Practice Your English program is a perfect example of a program we offer to bring community members together through learning and conversation.

Practicing English and Making Connections

Practice Your English are weekly meet-ups for casual conversation to help ESL (English as a Second Language) learners become more comfortable speaking English.

This program is led by extraordinary Cambridge Public Library volunteers and staff members, who focus on building community and offer a sense of belonging for newcomers.

Program leaders love to engage with all participants and get to know everyone individually. This is a free, casual program to help develop your confidence and comfort in using English.

Three different locations offer this program: Clemens Mill, Hespeler, and Preston. The program is also offered online

What to Expect at a Practice Your English Program

During these weekly meet-ups, participants have the opportunity to make new friends, share their cultures, and of course, practice communication skills in English. The current sessions of the program run until Saturday, May 30.

Practice Your English offers a safe and welcoming place to learn. Everyone has a chance to speak, but it is not mandatory if one prefers to simply to listen and observe. If you choose to pass, another opening will be available during the session.

In each session, several activities are available to try. These could include connecting games, mindfulness exercises, conversation prompts, and more.

Learning a new language is both challenging and rewarding. Practice Your English at your library provides our community a supportive, friendly space to learn together.
